The Bible Says
Proverbs 17:20 Meaning

The moral failure described in Proverbs 17:20 by Solomon reveals how inner crookedness and twisted speech fail to lead to good: He who has a crooked mind finds no good, and he who is perverted in his language falls into evil (v. 20). The heart and the mouth are linked again.

A crooked mind does not find good because it cannot perceive reality rightly. It bends what is straight and interprets life through distortion. That inner crookedness makes a person miss the path of blessing even when it lies near.

Likewise, the one perverted in his language falls into evil. Twisted speech is not harmless; it becomes part of a person’s downfall. Solomon again shows that the mouth is not incidental. Words participate in shaping whether we move toward life or into ruin.
