The Bible Says
Proverbs 17:24 Meaning

The direction of vision is the focus in Proverbs 17:24: Wisdom is in the presence of the one who has understanding, but the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth (v. 24). The wise and the fool look in different ways.

For the one who has understanding, wisdom is in his presence. He can see what matters right in front of him because his heart is formed to receive reality as it is. Wisdom is near, practical, and accessible to the humble.

But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth. The fool is distracted, restless, or chasing what is far off instead of attending to what is true and necessary. He looks everywhere except where wisdom actually is. This proverb exposes folly as a failure of attention as much as a failure of morality.
