Here in Proverbs 17:9, Solomon returns to relational health: He who conceals a transgression seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends (v. 9). Love knows how to handle offense without endlessly reopening it.
To conceal a transgression does not mean covering up injustice or pretending sin is good. It means refusing to broadcast every wrong for the sake of humiliation or endless conflict. Love seeks restoration where possible. It is willing to absorb rather than always expose.
But the one who repeats a matter keeps stirring what should have been settled, and in doing so separates intimate friends. Gossip, rehearsed grievance, and repeated offense poison closeness. Wisdom knows when to speak for healing and when to let mercy cover a wound.
