The Bible Says
Proverbs 18:22 Meaning

Proverbs 18:22 celebrates covenant blessing in marriage: He who finds a wife finds a good thing And obtains favor from the LORD (v. 22). Solomon presents a godly wife not as a mere possession, but as a gift.

To find a wife is to find a good thing, because marriage rightly ordered is part of God’s good design. A faithful wife is a blessing, companion, and covenant partner in life’s stewardship. The proverb honors the goodness of marriage as something given for flourishing.

It also says such a man obtains favor from the LORD. This does not reduce marriage to a formula for divine approval. Rather, it recognizes that a godly marriage is itself an expression of God’s kindness. In the larger biblical story, marriage also points beyond itself to covenant faithfulness and to the union imagery fulfilled in Christ and His people (Ephesians 5:31-32).
