Proverbs 18:24 ends the chapter with a verse about friendship: A man of too many friends comes to ruin, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (v. 24). Quantity of relationship is not the same as depth of loyalty.
A person may have too many friends in the sense of broad acquaintance without true covenant-like faithfulness. Such abundance can prove thin in the day of need. Many associations do not guarantee real help, wisdom, or love.
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. This is the gift of steadfast friendship, one marked by loyalty, constancy, and sacrificial presence. The proverb ends the chapter by lifting up the beauty of faithful companionship. In the wider sweep of Scripture, it also resonates with the kind of steadfast love most perfectly seen in the Lord’s own covenant faithfulness toward His people.
