Proverbs 19:26 names a deeply shameful family sin: He who assaults his father and drives his mother away is a shameful and disgraceful son (v. 26). The household, which should be a place of honor and care, is violated by such behavior.
To assault a father or drive a mother away is not only abusive, but a gross inversion of God’s design for family. Parents are to be honored, not attacked. The proverb assumes the moral horror of exploiting or abandoning those to whom one owes gratitude and respect.
That is why such a person is called shameful and disgraceful. Folly here is not immaturity alone, but hard moral corruption. This verse shows how far the path of wickedness can carry someone when honor is replaced by self-centered violence.
