The chapter closes with a final word on consequences: Judgments are prepared for scoffers, and blows for the back of fools (v. 29). Scoffing and foolishness are not exempt from the moral structure of God’s world.
Judgments are prepared for scoffers because mockery is not harmless wit. The scoffer resists truth, belittles wisdom, and hardens himself against correction. Such a posture invites consequence because it puts a person at odds with reality itself.
Likewise, blows for the back of fools means folly eventually meets painful discipline. The chapter ends where Proverbs so often does: cause and effect are real in God’s moral universe. Wisdom leads toward life, but scoffing and foolishness lead toward judgment.
