O princípio duradouro apresentado em Provérbios 12:19 revela que O lábio de verdade permanece para sempre, mas o lábio de mentira, só um momento (v. 19). A verdade tem durabilidade porque corresponde à realidade. As mentiras podem funcionar por um curto período, mas não podem criar um mundo permanente.
Estabelecer-se para sempre não significa que toda afirmação verdadeira permaneça socialmente popular. Significa que a verdade perdura porque está enraizada naquilo que Deus tornou real. Em última análise, o que é verdadeiro não pode ser derrubado pelo engano.
A língua mentirosa, porém, dura apenas um instante. A falsidade é temporária por natureza, pois depende do ocultamento, da confusão ou da demora. Uma vez exposta, perde seu poder. Este provérbio nos lembra que a verdade é forte não porque os humanos a preservem perfeitamente, mas porque Deus fez a realidade resistente à mentira.
