O princípio estabelecido em Provérbios 13:13 revela que Quem despreza a palavra traz sobre si a destruição, mas será recompensado o que teme o mandamento (v. 13). A palavra de Deus e a sábia instrução não são realidades opcionais que podemos ignorar sem consequências. Desprezá-las é colocar-se sob a obrigação de arcar com as consequências que elas descrevem.
Quem despreza a palavra ficará em dívida com ela, pois a realidade não muda quando rejeitamos a verdade. O plano de Deus continua a governar os resultados. Ignorar a sabedoria não livra a pessoa das consequências; pelo contrário, agrava sua responsabilidade perante elas.
Aquele que teme o mandamento, porém, será recompensado. Temer, neste caso, significa levar a instrução de Deus a sério, confiar que os Seus caminhos são para o nosso bem. Essa postura conduz à vida porque nos alinha com a ordem moral do Seu mundo.
