O princípio revelado em Provérbios 13:19 por Salomão mostra que O desejo realizado deleita a alma, mas apartar-se do mal é abominação para os loucos (v. 19). O desejo satisfeito traz deleite porque os seres humanos são feitos para ansiar pelo bem e se alegrar quando o recebem corretamente.
Dizer que o desejo realizado é doce para a alma é reconhecer a bondade da plenitude, um sinal de que Deus não se opõe à alegria. Quando o que se deseja está de acordo com a sabedoria e vem da maneira correta, isso revigora e adoça a vida.
Mas para os tolos, é uma abominação afastar-se do mal. Os tolos acham o arrependimento repugnante porque amam o caminho que estão trilhando. Essa é a tragédia da insensatez: ela resiste à própria mudança que levaria à vida. A doçura do bom desejo contrasta com a repulsa do tolo em abandonar o mal.
