A percepção expressa em Provérbios 14:10 por Salomão revela que O coração conhece a sua própria amargura, e o estranho não participa da sua alegria (v. 10). Este provérbio reconhece a natureza íntima da experiência humana, algumas tristezas e alegrias são profundamente pessoais.
O coração conhece a sua própria amargura porque há dores que não podem ser totalmente comunicadas ou suportadas por outra pessoa. Outros podem simpatizar, mas não podem habitar o mesmo fardo interior. Salomão demonstra aqui um realismo pastoral sobre o mistério do coração humano.
Da mesma forma, um estranho não compartilha da sua alegria. Até mesmo a alegria possui uma profundidade conhecida exclusivamente por quem a experimenta, este versículo nos lembra tanto da individualidade humana quanto dos limites do julgamento externo. Muito do que molda a vida de uma pessoa está oculto no coração.
