A reflexão sóbria em Provérbios 14:13 revela que Até no riso o coração pode ter a dor, e a alegria pode acabar em tristeza (v. 13). Este versículo reconhece a complexidade das emoções humanas, a felicidade exterior nem sempre é prova de plenitude interior.
Uma pessoa pode rir mesmo com o coração em dor. Salomão sabia que emoções visíveis podem ocultar uma profunda tristeza, isso nos protege de julgamentos superficiais. Nem toda risada é plenitude, e nem toda aparência radiante significa paz de espírito.
Da mesma forma, o fim da alegria pode ser a tristeza. Alguns prazeres carregam consigo a tristeza, enquanto outros são temporários e frágeis. O provérbio nos adverte para não confundirmos a emoção imediata com a realidade duradoura. A verdadeira alegria deve estar enraizada em algo mais profundo do que o deleite momentâneo.
