A imagem da vida presente em Provérbios 14:27 revela que O temor de Jeová é fonte de vida, para desviar dos laços da morte (v. 27). Novamente, Salomão apresenta o temor do Senhor como fonte de vida.
Uma fonte de vida é uma fonte contínua de renovação e vitalidade. O temor do Senhor é assim, pois continuamente reorienta o coração para a realidade, a sabedoria e a confiança. Ele sustenta a vida, em vez de apenas iniciá-la.
Também ajuda a pessoa a evitar as armadilhas da morte. A morte, em Provérbios, muitas vezes aparece como uma armadilha escondida na insensatez. A reverência a Deus expõe essas armadilhas e nos ajuda a nos afastarmos antes que elas nos cerquem. O temor do Senhor é, portanto, tanto alimento quanto proteção.
