O contraste retratado em Provérbios 14:9 revela que A culpa zomba dos insensatos, mas os retos têm o favor de Deus (v. 9). Os insensatos tratam o pecado com leviandade. Eles riem daquilo que deveria lhes trazer sobriedade.
Zombar do pecado é banalizar o mal moral, tratar a culpa, a transgressão ou o arrependimento como algo risível, isso é sinal de profunda insensatez, pois revela um coração alheio à realidade. O pecado é destrutivo, e zombar dele é zombar justamente daquilo que destrói o florescimento humano.
Entre os retos, porém, há boa vontade. A retidão produz favor, reconciliação e relações justas porque leva o pecado a sério o suficiente para buscar o bem. Enquanto os tolos zombam do mal, os retos visam à restauração e à paz.
