Provérbios 15:10 adverte sobre o preço de se desviar do caminho da sabedoria: Correção rigorosa há para quem abandona o caminho, e aquele que aborrece a repreensão morrerá (v. 10). O provérbio une disciplina, caminho e consequência de forma muito direta.
Abandonar o caminho significa desviar-se da senda da retidão, mesmo sabendo que não é correto. Isso não é um simples desvio inocente. É deixar o caminho que dá vida para seguir outra senda. Salomão afirma que tal escolha atrai um castigo severo, pois a própria realidade é estruturada contra o mal.
Aquele que odeia a repreensão morrerá, pois rejeita justamente aquilo que poderia fazê-lo retroceder. A correção tem o propósito de resgatar, mas quando é desprezada, a pessoa se priva de um dos principais meios de misericórdia de Deus. Odiar a correção é, portanto, odiar a vida.
