Provérbios 15:12 volta o assunto para o escarnecedor: O escarnecedor não gosta de quem o repreende; não irá ter com os sábios (v. 12). Este versículo expõe por que a zombaria é tão perigosa espiritualmente.
O escarnecedor não gosta de quem o repreende, pois a correção parece uma ameaça ao seu orgulho. Ele se ressente de quem lhe diz a verdade. Em vez de acolher a ajuda, ele se volta contra ela. Isso cria um sistema moral fechado no qual o crescimento se torna quase impossível.
Por isso ele não irá ter com os sábios. A sabedoria exige humildade, mas o escarnecedor prefere evitar os sábios ao invés de ouvir o que precisa. A tragédia não é apenas a falta de instrução, mas o fato de ele evitar justamente a companhia onde poderia encontrar cura e clareza.
