O contraste em Provérbios 15:14 diz respeito ao apetite: O coração do inteligente busca o conhecimento, mas a boca dos loucos se apascenta de estultícia (v. 14). O que as pessoas consomem revela em quem elas estão se transformando.
A mente inteligente busca o conhecimento porque a sabedoria gera uma fome pela verdade. A pessoa inteligente não se contenta com a ignorância, o ruído ou as distrações superficiais. Ela anseia por compreensão, e sua mente se volta para a realidade.
Enquanto isso, a boca dos loucos se alimenta de tolice. Os tolos absorvem e repetem o que é vazio, corrupto ou absurdo. Eles se alimentam daquilo que não os sustenta. Este provérbio ensina que a dieta intelectual e moral importa. Nos tornamos, em parte, aquilo que consumimos repetidamente.
