A simbologia da comida continua em Provérbios 15:17: Melhor é o prato de hortaliças onde há amor do que o boi cevado, e, com ele, o ódio (v. 17). O que envolve uma refeição importa mais do que o que está no prato.
Uma refeição simples de vegetais pode ser ainda melhor se compartilhada com amor. O amor enriquece até mesmo a provisão mais modesta, pois cria comunhão, segurança e alegria. O versículo aponta para o alimento mais profundo que o relacionamento e a paz proporcionam.
Um boi gordo, por outro lado, sugere abundância e celebração, mas até isso se torna amargo quando servido com ódio. Comida farta não compensa um ambiente tóxico. Este provérbio nos lembra que a qualidade moral e relacional de um lar importa mais do que o luxo exterior.
