Em contraste com o versículo anterior, Provérbios 16:15 fala do favor de um rei: Na luz do rosto do rei, está a vida, e o seu furor é como a chuva serôdia (v. 15). Quando o rosto de um rei está radiante em vez de irado, isso sinaliza segurança e bênção.
A luz no rosto de um rei significa aprovação, boas-vindas e um governo que dá vida. Assim como a ira real podia ameaçar, o favor real podia sustentar. Podia significar segurança, provisão e acesso à prosperidade sob uma autoridade justa.
Seu favor é comparado a uma nuvem com a chuva da primavera, uma imagem de nutrição e renovação em um mundo agrícola. A chuva da primavera trazia crescimento e colheita. O argumento de Salomão é que a boa autoridade pode ser revigorante em vez de opressão quando exercida com favor e justiça.
