O juízo de valor expresso em Provérbios 16:19 mostra que: Melhor é ser humilde de espírito com os pobres do que repartir os despojos com os soberbos (v. 19). Salomão, mais uma vez, contrapõe a qualidade moral ao ganho visível.
Ser humilde de espírito com os pobres pode parecer socialmente pouco impressionante, mas é melhor porque a humildade está em consonância com a verdade e com o favor de Deus. Os humildes não são necessariamente fracos de caráter; muitas vezes, simplesmente não são exaltados pelo poder ou orgulho mundanos.
Dividir os despojos com os soberbos implica partilhar os ganhos obtidos pela arrogância e pela conquista. Mesmo que a recompensa pareça atraente, a companhia moral e a postura espiritual tornam-na uma perda. Os Provérbios continuam a ensinar que a comunhão com o orgulho nunca é um bom negócio.
