Salomão então apresenta uma declaração concisa sobre o planejamento humano sob o domínio divino: O coração do homem propõe o seu caminho, mas Jeová lhe dirige os passos (v. 9). Provérbios 16:9 é intimamente relacionado com o versículo 1, mas com uma ênfase ligeiramente diferente. Aqui, o foco está no curso contínuo da vida, e não apenas nas palavras que são proferidas no final.
Os seres humanos realmente planejam. Provérbios nunca ensina a passividade. A sabedoria pensa no futuro, se prepara e age com responsabilidade. Contudo, o Senhor dirige os seus passos, o que significa que o desenrolar da jornada permanece em Suas mãos.
Isso deve gerar tanto diligência quanto humildade. Temos a responsabilidade de trilhar caminhos sábios, mas jamais devemos presumir que controlamos cada curva da estrada. Confiar em Deus significa aceitar que a Sua direção pode corrigir, atrasar, redirecionar ou aprofundar o que havíamos planejado.
