Ao retratar a rebeldia como algo que acarreta consequências severas, Provérbios 17:11 revela que O homem mau só procura a rebelião. Portanto, um mensageiro cruel será enviado contra ele (v. 11). Rebeldia aqui não é pensamento independente, mas resistência obstinada à ordem legítima.
O homem mau só procura a rebelião porque sua postura se opõe fundamentalmente à sabedoria. Ele não está simplesmente confuso. Ele escolheu a resistência, e essa resistência direciona seus desejos para aquilo que destrói. A rebeldia deixa de ser um ato isolado e se torna uma orientação permanente.
Portanto, um mensageiro cruel será enviado contra ele. Isso provavelmente se refere a um julgamento severo ou a uma consequência grave. A ideia de Salomão é que a rebeldia obstinada eventualmente encontra uma resposta adequada. O mundo de Deus não foi estruturado para recompensar a desobediência persistente.
