A falha moral descrita em Provérbios 17:20 por Salomão revela como a perversidade interior e a fala distorcida impedem o bem: O perverso de coração não achará o bem; e o que tem a língua dobre cairá no mal (v. 20). O coração e a boca estão novamente ligados.
Um coração perverso não acha o bem porque não consegue perceber a realidade corretamente. Ela distorce o que é reto e interpreta a vida de forma distorcida. Essa perversidade interior faz com que a pessoa perca o caminho da bênção, mesmo quando ele está bem perto.
Da mesma forma, aquele que tem a língua pervertida cairá no mal. A fala distorcida não é inofensiva; ela contribui para a ruína da pessoa. Salomão demonstra novamente que a boca não é um mero detalhe. As palavras participam da definição de se caminharemos em direção à vida ou à ruína.
