A direção do olhar é o foco em Provérbios 17:24: A sabedoria é o alvo do inteligente, mas os olhos do insensato estão nas extremidades da terra (v. 24). O inteligente e o insensato enxergam de maneiras diferentes.
Para aquele que possui entendimento, a sabedoria está presente. Ele consegue enxergar o que importa bem diante de si, pois seu coração está preparado para receber a realidade como ela é. A sabedoria é próxima, prática e acessível aos humildes.
Mas os olhos do insensato estão nas extremidades da terra. O tolo está distraído, inquieto ou perseguindo o que está distante em vez de se atentar para o que é verdadeiro e necessário. Ele olha para todos os lados, menos para onde a sabedoria realmente reside. Este provérbio expõe a tolice como uma falha de atenção tanto quanto uma falha de moralidade.
