Provérbios 17:27 elogia a moderação e a serenidade: Quem é moderado nas suas palavras tem conhecimento; e o que tem espírito sereno é homem de inteligência (v. 27). A sabedoria muitas vezes se manifesta naquilo que uma pessoa escolhe não dizer.
Controlar as palavras é sinal de conhecimento, pois os sábios compreendem o peso da fala. Eles não se sentem compelidos a dizer tudo o que pensam. A fala ponderada demonstra ordem interior, discrição e respeito pela verdade.
Da mesma forma, um espírito sereno demonstra inteligência. Uma vida interior tranquila impede que a pessoa reaja impulsivamente ou de forma destrutiva. Sabedoria não é meramente possuir informação; é a capacidade de permanecer controlado, firme e ponderado sob pressão.
