A honra familiar é o foco de Provérbios 17:6: Os filhos dos filhos são a coroa dos velhos, e a glória dos filhos são seus pais (v. 6). Salomão observa a beleza da bênção geracional e da identidade relacional.
Os netos são chamados de coroa porque representam continuidade, legado e alegria. A velhice é enriquecida pela visão da vida continuar através das gerações futuras. Não se trata apenas de continuidade biológica, mas da alegria de ver a própria vida se estender e se transformar em bênçãos.
Ao mesmo tempo, a glória dos filhos reside em seus pais. O legado, os ensinamentos e o exemplo de um pai tornam-se parte da honra de um filho. Este provérbio enfatiza a dignidade dos laços familiares quando estes são bem estruturados. A sabedoria não é apenas individual; muitas vezes, ela frutifica ao longo das gerações.
