Segue-se um provérbio sobre perseverança: O espírito do homem o sustentará na enfermidade, mas quem poderá levantar a um espírito quebrantado? (v. 14). Provérbios 18:14 reconhece o poder e a fragilidade da vida interior.
O espírito de uma pessoa pode sustentá-la durante uma doença física, pois a força interior, a esperança e a coragem muitas vezes ajudam a suportar a fraqueza corporal, existe uma força interior que permite resistir mesmo em condições difíceis.
Mas quem consegue suportar um espírito abatido? Quando o ser interior está esmagado, o fardo torna-se muito mais pesado. Este provérbio lembra-nos que o colapso espiritual e emocional pode ser mais debilitante do que a dor física. A sabedoria, portanto, não trata a vida interior com leviandade e a condição do espírito importa profundamente.
