Provérbios 18:24 encerra o capítulo com um versículo sobre amizade: Quem faz para si muitos amigos fá-los para sua desgraça; mas há um amigo que é mais chegado do que um irmão (v. 24). Quantidade de relacionamentos não é o mesmo que profundidade de lealdade.
Uma pessoa pode ter amigos em excesso, no sentido de amplo conhecimento, sem uma fidelidade verdadeira e incondicional. Essa abundância pode se mostrar insuficiente em momentos de necessidade. Muitas relações não garantem ajuda, sabedoria ou amor genuínos.
Mas há um amigo mais chegado que um irmão. Este é o dom da amizade inabalável, marcada pela lealdade, constância e presença sacrificial. O provérbio encerra o capítulo exaltando a beleza da companhia fiel. No contexto mais amplo das Escrituras, ele também ressoa com o tipo de amor inabalável que se manifesta de forma mais perfeita na fidelidade da aliança do Senhor para com o Seu povo.
