A linguagem figurativa muda de forma encantadora em Provérbios 18:4: As palavras da boca do homem são como águas profundas, e a fonte da sabedoria é como ribeiro que corre (v. 4). Salomão trata a fala como algo que possui profundidade e fluidez.
As profundezas das águas sugerem que as palavras podem carregar significado muito além da superfície. A fala humana não é trivial. Ela pode revelar o que está oculto, ter peso e afetar profundamente os outros. Algumas palavras são superficiais, mas as palavras sábias têm profundidade porque brotam de um coração formado.
Então Salomão compara a fonte da sabedoria a um ribeiro que corre. A fala da sabedoria não é apenas profunda, mas viva, comovente e revigorante. Um riacho borbulhante nutre tudo ao seu redor. Da mesma forma, as palavras sábias sustentam, esclarecem e trazem vida àqueles que as recebem.
