O pensamento anterior se aprofunda aqui em Provérbios 18:7: A boca do tolo é a sua destruição, e os seus lábios são o laço da sua alma (v. 7). A fala insensata não é apenas prejudicial socialmente; é espiritualmente destrutiva.
A boca do tolo é sua ruína, pois expõe repetidamente a desordem de seu coração e o arrasta para consequências que poderia ter evitado. Ele se leva ao conflito, à vergonha e ao colapso com suas próprias palavras. Seu discurso se torna parte da engrenagem de sua queda.
Mais impressionante ainda, seus lábios são a armadilha de sua alma. Uma armadilha prende o que entra nela, e a fala do tolo o aprisiona por dentro. Este versículo ensina que a língua não é meramente uma ferramenta externa. Ela pode se tornar uma armadilha espiritual que enreda a pessoa por completo.
