Provérbios 18:8 aborda a fofoca: As palavras do caluniador são como doces bocados, que penetram até o fundo das entranhas (v. 8). A fofoca é descrita como algo estranhamente atraente.
Um caluniador lida com informações ocultas e de tom íntimo. Suas palavras soam como delicados petiscos, pois seduzem o ouvinte com conhecimento secreto, a emoção do acesso privilegiado ou a satisfação de ouvir algo corrosivo sobre outra pessoa.
Mas essas palavras penetram até o fundo das entranhas. A fofoca se instala profundamente, ela se aloja no coração, molda a percepção e envenena os relacionamentos por dentro. Salomão adverte que as palavras sussurradas não são conversas inofensivas. Elas são sedutoras e penetrantes, e seus efeitos muitas vezes perduram além do momento.
