A tristeza familiar é novamente trazida à tona em Provérbios 19:13: O filho insensato é a calamidade do pai, e as rixas da mulher são uma goteira contínua (v. 13). Salomão está descrevendo a miséria doméstica produzida pela insensatez e pela discórdia.
Um filho insensato se torna a ruína de seu pai, pois as escolhas de uma criança afetam toda a família. A insensatez consome a paz, a esperança, os recursos e a alegria. Ela rompe os laços que deveriam ser de bênção.
Da mesma forma, as rixas de uma esposa são uma goteira contínua. A imagem é de uma irritação contínua que desgasta a pessoa com o tempo. O provérbio não está desmerecendo as mulheres; está condenando as brigas crônicas no lar. A discórdia, seja qual for sua origem, corrói lentamente o que a sabedoria poderia construir.
