As consequências e o resgate repetido são o tema de Provérbios 19:19: Quem se deixa levar pela cólera deve sofrer-lhe a pena, porque, se o livrares, terás de o fazer de novo (v. 19). O temperamento descontrolado continua a gerar os mesmos problemas.
Um homem tomado por grande ira cria circunstâncias repetidas que exigem consequências. Sua fúria não é um deslize isolado, mas um padrão. É por isso que ele arcará com as consequências, seu próprio temperamento continua a gerar o cenário para isso.
E se alguém o resgata continuamente sem que haja alguma transformação, terá que fazer isso de novo. O provérbio não é contra a misericórdia, mas sim contra a cumplicidade. A sabedoria reconhece que o resgate constante sem arrependimento pode simplesmente perpetuar a própria insensatez que precisa ser corrigida.
