Uma forte promessa sobre o temor do Senhor aparece em Provérbios 19:23: O temor de Jeová conduz à vida; aquele que a tem ficará satisfeito, e mal nenhum o visitará (v. 23). A reverência a Deus é apresentada como um caminho de vida, não como uma mera emoção.
O temor do Senhor conduz à vida porque nos alinha com o que é real e bom. Como ensina Provérbios, esse temor não é mero pavor, mas a confiança fundamental que considera a instrução de Deus mais confiável do que nossos próprios instintos.
O resultado é o descanso: pode-se dormir satisfeito, intocado pelo mal. Isso não é uma promessa de que nenhuma dificuldade jamais virá. É a paz de viver dentro da ordem de Deus, onde os problemas externos não podem, em última instância, roubar da alma seu refúgio. A sabedoria traz descanso porque está fundamentada na confiança.
