A correção e seus efeitos subsequentes são descritos em Provérbios 19:25: Fere ao escarnecedor, e o simples aprenderá a prudência; e repreende ao que tem entendimento, e crescerá na ciência (v. 25). As pessoas reagem de maneiras diferentes à correção.
Quando um zombador é punido, o ingênuo pode se tornar astuto. O próprio zombador pode permanecer inflexível, mas os observadores ainda podem aprender com a consequência visível. Os provérbios frequentemente apresentam o ingênuo como alguém ainda passível de ser moldado, e este é um exemplo disso.
Mas quando você repreende alguém que tem entendimento, essa pessoa ganha ainda mais. Os sábios não apenas observam a correção de longe; eles a recebem diretamente. Porque são ensináveis, a repreensão se transforma em conhecimento, e não apenas em dor.
