Provérbios 19:7 intensifica a solidão da pobreza: Todos os irmãos do pobre o aborrecem; quanto mais se afastam dele os seus amigos! Persegue-os com súplicas, mas eles já desapareceram (v. 7). O versículo não aprova essa condição, mas lamenta o quão severa ela pode ser.
Se até mesmo os irmãos de um homem pobre se afastam, quanto mais suas amizades mais superficiais podem desaparecer. A necessidade pode expor a superficialidade de muitos laços humanos. As dificuldades muitas vezes revelam quem realmente ama e quem simplesmente permaneceu por perto enquanto as circunstâncias eram convenientes.
O verso final é especialmente triste: Persegue-os com súplicas, mas eles já desapareceram. O pobre homem pode tentar reparar o dano, apelar ou restabelecer o contato, mas a distância permanece. Salomão aqui nomeia uma crueldade social dolorosa para que os sábios a vejam com clareza e resistam a se tornarem parte dela.
