Salomão menciona duas faculdades como dons em Provérbios 20:12: O ouvido que ouve e o olho que vê, é Jeová que fez tanto um como outro (v. 12). O versículo direciona a gratidão e a responsabilidade para o mesmo propósito.
O ouvido que ouve e o olho que vê são as duas faculdades que Provérbios vem treinando desde sempre: ouvir, a condição essencial para receber instruções, e observar, a condição essencial para compreender a realidade. Salomão chama a atenção para a origem de ambas.
O SENHOR os criou. Essas faculdades não são autogeradas, por isso devemos ser gratos por elas. Essa lembrança também carrega um segundo peso: Aquele que as criou vê e ouve perfeitamente, e o uso que fazemos desses dons está aberto diante Dele.
