Provérbios 20:15 reordena o que consideramos precioso: Há ouro e abundância de corais, mas, os lábios sábios são joia preciosa (v. 15). Salomão coloca a palavra sábia acima da riqueza material.
O ouro e as joias em abundância são valiosos e raros. Salomão não nega seu valor. Eles são o padrão visível de preciosidade em qualquer época, e há mercado para eles em todas as culturas.
Mas os lábios do conhecimento são algo mais precioso. Uma pessoa que consegue transmitir verdade e sabedoria a outra no momento certo é ainda mais rara e valiosa. O versículo ecoa o elogio à sabedoria em Provérbios 3:13-15 e Provérbios 8:11. O reino não se sustenta em joias; sustenta-se nas palavras daqueles que realmente sabem do que estão falando.
