O conselho reaparece em Provérbios 20:18: Os projetos confirmam-se pelos conselhos; faze a guerra com prudência (v. 18). Salomão repetidamente exorta a buscar conselho (Provérbios 11:14; Provérbios 15:22 e Provérbios 24:6) e aqui associa o planejamento comum à decisão mais consequente possível.
Elaborar planos por meio de consultas é a prática comum de buscar opiniões antes de agir. A sabedoria reconhece que nenhuma pessoa sozinha enxerga tudo, que o orgulho e a pressa criam pontos cegos e que um bom conselho reduz a distância entre a intenção e a realidade.
Fazer guerra com sabedoria e orientação eleva esse princípio ao seu nível máximo de importância. Um líder que recusa conselhos antes de iniciar qualquer ação séria já começou a acreditar mais no próprio julgamento do que a situação justifica. Tomar decisões isoladas em assuntos de grande relevância é presunção.
