Salomão redireciona o desejo de vingança em Provérbios 20:22: Não digas: Vingar-me-ei do mal; espera por Jeová, e ele te salvará (v. 22). O versículo reorienta a pessoa injustiçada, afastando-a da retaliação.
Dizer Vingar-me-ei do mal é a tentação natural quando alguém é prejudicado. O desejo de retaliação parece justiça. Salomão impede o sábio de terminar a frase, porque a retribuição pertence a Deus, não ao homem.
A instrução é esperar Jeová, e ele te salvará. A resposta sábia entrega o erro Àquele que, somente Ele, tem a posição e a perspectiva para lidar com a situação corretamente. Paulo cita a mesma ideia em Romanos 12:17-19. Esperar no SENHOR é reconhecer quem é juiz e quem não é.
