O capítulo se encerra com seu versículo mais difícil: Os açoites que ferem eliminam o mal, e os golpes penetram até o íntimo (v. 30). Provérbios 20:30 termina com a linguagem da correção física.
As marcas que ferem descrevem uma correção dolorosa, custosa e indesejada. A afirmação de Salomão é que a verdadeira ferida, por vezes, remove o mal que nada mais consegue alcançar. Algumas formas de corrupção moral são tão profundas que nem mesmo uma leve lembrança consegue eliminá-las.
Os golpes penetram até o íntimo. A mesma palavra que nomeou as partes mais íntimas examinadas pela lâmpada no versículo 27 retorna aqui, agora alcançada pela correção. O mesmo princípio se aplica à disciplina que um pai sábio administra (Provérbios 13:24) e à disciplina que o SENHOR administra àqueles a quem ama (Hebreus 12:5-11). O capítulo termina aqui em tom profundo, apropriado para um capítulo que dedicou trinta versículos a mostrar quão séria é, de fato, a sabedoria.
