Provérbios 20:5 aborda a vida interior: Como águas profundas, é o conselho no coração do homem, mas o homem inteligente o tirará para fora (v. 5). O que uma pessoa realmente pretende raramente é o que ela anuncia, e Salomão ensina o discípulo a enxergar além das aparências.
Um plano no coração de um homem repousa como água profunda. Planos, motivações e convicções tendem a se acumular no fundo do coração, ocultos sob a aparência. A água é real, mas não é visível da superfície. Quanto mais profundo o poço, mais difícil é alcançar a água.
O homem compreensivo extrai a verdade com paciência e habilidade. Ele faz as perguntas certas, escuta por mais tempo do que se sente confortável e resiste à tentação de reagir superficialmente. Conselhos verdadeiros e amizades genuínas exigem essa lenta revelação daquilo que o coração realmente planeja.
