Salomão então aborda a discrepância entre a autoavaliação humana e o julgamento de Deus em Provérbios 21:2: Todo caminho do homem parece direito aos seus olhos, mas Jeová pesa os corações (v. 2). Este versículo é praticamente idêntico a Provérbios 16:2 e Provérbios 16:25.
A autojustificação é o estado padrão do coração humano. Quase ninguém olha para a própria conduta e a considera errada. O SENHOR não trabalha com base na autoavaliação do homem; Ele pesa os corações. O verbo é o mesmo usado para a balança do comerciante, o SENHOR aplica uma medida verdadeira àquilo que o homem preferiria avaliar a si mesmo.
Para o estudante de Provérbios, essa é uma constatação que traz sobriedade e é útil. Ela o protege da certeza presunçosa de que seu caminho é o certo simplesmente porque lhe parece correto.
