WHAT GOD HAS DONE FOR THE BELIEVER.

1.1  FOREKNEW

Romans 8:29a

2.1  Definition:

God knows all that will occur, including who would believe in Christ

2.2  God knows all things

Isaiah 46:9-10

2.3  Believers (plural) are the subjects of foreknowledge

2.4  Foreknowledge does not necessarily mean God caused

1.2  PREDESTINED

Romans 8:29b; 8:30a

2.1  Definition:

God has predetermined the position of the believer

(to mark out ahead of time)

2.2  The purpose of predestination

3.1  NOT THE DESTINY OF HEAVEN OR HELL

3.2  BUT CONFORMITY TO THE IMAGE OF JESUS CHRIST

That might be the firstborn among many brethren

3.3  BUT PLACED AS ADOPTED AS SONS THROUGH JESUS CHRIST

3.4  IN GOD’S SOVEREIGNTY HE CAN CHOOSE TO DELEGATE

1.3  CALLED

Romans 8:30b

2.1  Definition:

God has called mankind to believe in Christ, but the “called” are those who have responded to that call

2.2  The Holy Spirit brings conviction

John 16:8-11

2.3  The vehicle is the Word of God

Romans 10:12-14; 10:17

2.4  Not all respond to the call

“For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Matthew 22:1-14

2.5  “The called” are the ones who have responded to the convicting ministry of the Holy Spirit through the Word

Romans 8:28

1.4  JUSTIFIED

Romans 8:30c

2.1  Definition:

God has declared righteous, those who believe in Christ

2 Corinthians 5:21

1.5  GLORIFIED

Romans 8:30d

2.1  Definition:

God sees the believer already as freed from sin and sharing in the glory of Christ

2.2  Glorification in the past tense

Romans 8:29-30

29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. (NKJV)
