Died: November 1, 1947, Wheaton, Illinois.
Raised a Roman Catholic, Ludgate joined the Salvation Army, serving in Canada, New Jersey, New York, and elsewhere, rising to the rank of brigadier. He evidently served as a chaplain in World War I, and as spiritual adviser to Wheaton Military College.
