Words: Mary E. Maxwell, alt.
Little is known about the author. However, an English researcher unearthed the fact that a prolific author named Mary Elizabeth Braddon was born October 4, 1837. She married a John Maxwell in 1874, and died February 4, 1915. She is thought to be the author of this hymn.

How I praise Thee, precious Savior,
That Thy love laid hold of me;
Thou hast saved and cleansed and filled me
