The Ark of God Inhabits a Tent

1 Now it happened ^H1961 when ^H834 David ^H1732 inhabited ^H3427 his house ^H1004, that David ^H1732 said ^H559 to Nathan ^H5416 the prophet ^H5030, “Behold ^H2009, I inhabit ^H3427 a house ^H1004 of cedar ^H730, but the ark ^H727 of the covenant ^H1285 of Yahweh ^H3068 is under ^H8478 tent curtains ^H3407.”

2 So Nathan ^H5416 said ^H559 to David ^H1732, “Do ^H6213 all ^H3605 that is in your heart ^H3824, for God ^H430 is with you.”

3 Now it happened ^H1961 in the same ^H1931 night ^H3915, that the word ^H1697 of God ^H430 came ^H1961 to Nathan ^H5416, saying ^H559, 4 “Go ^H1980 and say ^H559 to David ^H1732 My servant ^H5650, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068, “You shall not build ^H1129 Me a house ^H1004 to inhabit ^H3427; 5 for I have not inhabited ^H3427 a house ^H1004 since ^H4480 the day ^H3117 that I brought ^H5927 up ^H5927 Israel ^H3478 to this ^H2088 day ^H3117, but I have been ^H1961 from tent ^H168 to tent ^H168 and from one [fn]dwelling ^H4908 place ^H4908 to another. 6 Wherever ^H3605 H834 I have gone ^H1980 about ^H1980 with all ^H3605 Israel ^H3478, did I speak ^H1696 a word ^H1697 with even one ^H259 of the judges ^H8199 of Israel ^H3478, whom ^H834 I commanded ^H6680 to shepherd ^H7462 My people ^H5971, saying ^H559, ‘Why ^H4100 have you not built ^H1129 Me a house ^H1004 of cedar ^H730?’”’

David’s House Will Be Established Forever

7 So now ^H6258, thus ^H3541 shall you say ^H559 to My servant ^H5650 David ^H1732, ‘Thus ^H3541 says ^H559 Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635, “I Myself took ^H3947 you from the pasture ^H5116, from following ^H310 the sheep ^H6629, to be ruler ^H5057 over ^H5921 My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478. 8 And I have been ^H1961 with you wherever ^H3605 H834 you have gone ^H1980, and have cut ^H3772 off ^H3772 all ^H3605 your enemies ^H340 from before ^H6440 you; and I will make ^H6213 you a name ^H8034 like the name ^H8034 of the great ^H1419 men ^H1419 who ^H834 are on the earth ^H776. 9 And I will appoint ^H7760 a place ^H4725 for My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478 and will plant ^H5193 them, that they may dwell ^H7931 in ^H7931 their own place ^H8478 and not be disturbed ^H7264 again ^H5750; and the [fn]unrighteous ^H5766 H1121 will not waste ^H1086 them anymore ^H3254 as formerly ^H7223, 10 even from the day ^H3117 that I commanded ^H6680 judges ^H8199 to be over ^H5921 My people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478. And I will subdue ^H3665 all ^H3605 your enemies ^H340.

And I tell ^H5046 you that Yahweh ^H3068 will build ^H1129 a house ^H1004 for you. 11 And it will be that when ^H3588 your days ^H3117 are fulfilled ^H4390 to go ^H1980 to be with your fathers ^H1, I will raise ^H6965 up ^H6965 one of your seed ^H2233 after ^H310 you, who ^H834 will be of your sons ^H1121; and I will establish ^H3559 his kingdom ^H4438. 12 He shall build ^H1129 for Me a house ^H1004, and I will establish ^H3559 his throne ^H3678 forever ^H5704 H5769. 13 I will be a father ^H1 to him and he will be a son ^H1121 to Me; and I will not remove ^H5493 My lovingkindness ^H2617 from him, as I removed ^H5493 it from him who ^H834 was before ^H6440 you. 14 But I will cause him to stand ^H5975 in My house ^H1004 and in My kingdom ^H4438 forever ^H5704 H5769, and his throne ^H3678 shall be established ^H3559 forever ^H5704 H5769.”’” 15 According to all ^H3605 these ^H428 words ^H1697 and according to all ^H3605 this ^H2088 vision ^H2377, so ^H3651 Nathan ^H5416 spoke ^H1696 to David ^H1732.

David Magnifies Yahweh’s Name

16 Then David ^H1732 the king ^H4428 went ^H935 in ^H935 and sat ^H3427 before ^H6440 Yahweh ^H3068 and said ^H559, “Who ^H4310 am I, O Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430, and what ^H4310 is my house ^H1004 that You have brought ^H935 me this ^H1988 far ^H1988?

17 And this ^H2088 was ^H6994 a ^H6994 small ^H6994 thing ^H6994 in Your eyes ^H5869, O God ^H430; but You have spoken ^H1696 of the house ^H1004 of Your slave ^H5650 concerning the distant ^H7350 future ^H7350, and have regarded ^H7200 me according to the standard ^H8447 of a man ^H120 of high ^H4609 degree ^H4609, O Yahweh ^H3068 God ^H430. 18 Again what ^H4100 more ^H3254 can David ^H1732 say to You concerning the glory ^H3519 bestowed on Your slave ^H5650? You know ^H3045 Your slave ^H5650. 19 O Yahweh ^H3068, for the sake ^H5668 of Your slave ^H5650, and according to Your own heart ^H3820, You have done ^H6213 all ^H3605 this ^H2088 greatness ^H1420, to make ^H3045 known ^H3045 all ^H3605 these great ^H1420 things ^H1420. 20 O Yahweh ^H3068, there ^H369 is ^H369 none ^H369 like ^H3644 You, and there ^H369 is ^H369 no ^H369 God ^H430 besides ^H2108 You, according to all ^H3605 that we have heard ^H8085 with our ears ^H241. 21 And what ^H4310 one ^H259 nation ^H1471 in the earth ^H776 is like Your people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478, whom ^H834 God ^H430 went ^H1980 to redeem ^H6299 for Himself as a people ^H5971, to make ^H7760 You a name ^H8034 by great ^H1420 and awesome ^H3372 things ^H3372, in driving ^H1644 out ^H1644 nations ^H1471 from before ^H6440 Your people ^H5971, whom ^H834 You redeemed ^H6299 out of Egypt ^H4714? 22 Yet You gave ^H5414 Your people ^H5971 Israel ^H3478 to be Your own people ^H5971 forever ^H5704 H5769, and You, O Yahweh ^H3068, have become ^H1961 their God ^H430.

23 “So now ^H6258, O Yahweh ^H3068, let the word ^H1697 that You have spoken ^H1696 concerning ^H5921 Your slave ^H5650 and concerning ^H5921 his house ^H1004 [fn]endure ^H539 forever ^H5704 H5769, and do ^H6213 as You have spoken ^H1696, 24 that Your name ^H8034 [fn]endure ^H539 and be magnified ^H1431 forever ^H5704 H5769, by saying ^H559, ‘Yahweh ^H3068 of hosts ^H6635 is the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, even a God ^H430 to Israel ^H3478; and the house ^H1004 of David ^H1732 Your [fn]servant ^H5650 is established ^H3559 before ^H6440 You.’ 25 For You, O my God ^H430, have revealed ^H1540 in the hearing ^H241 of Your slave ^H5650 that You will build ^H1129 for him a house ^H1004; therefore ^H5921 H3651 Your slave ^H5650 has found ^H4672 courage to pray ^H6419 before ^H6440 You. 26 So now ^H6258, O Yahweh ^H3068, You are God ^H430, and You have [fn]promised ^H1696 this ^H2088 good ^H2896 thing ^H2896 to Your slave ^H5650. 27 So now ^H6258, You have been pleased ^H2974 to bless ^H1288 the house ^H1004 of Your slave ^H5650, that it may be ^H1961 forever ^H5769 before ^H6440 You. For You, O Yahweh ^H3068, have blessed ^H1288, and it is blessed ^H1288 forever ^H5769.”
