Divisions of Levites

1 Now the divisions ^H4256 of the sons ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 were these: the sons ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 were Nadab ^H5070, Abihu ^H30, Eleazar ^H499, and Ithamar ^H385.

2 But Nadab ^H5070 and Abihu ^H30 died ^H4191 before ^H6440 their father ^H1 and had ^H1961 no ^H3808 [fn]sons ^H1121. So Eleazar ^H499 and Ithamar ^H385 ministered ^H3547 as ^H3547 priests ^H3547. 3 And David ^H1732, with Zadok ^H6659 of the sons ^H1121 of Eleazar ^H499 and Ahimelech ^H288 of the sons ^H1121 of Ithamar ^H385, divided ^H2505 them according to their assignments ^H6486 for their service ^H5656. 4 And more ^H7227 chief ^H7218 men ^H1397 were found ^H4672 from the [fn]sons ^H1121 of Eleazar ^H499 than ^H4480 the [fn]sons ^H1121 of Ithamar ^H385, so they divided ^H2505 them thus: there were sixteen ^H8337 H6240 heads ^H7218 of fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004 of the [fn]sons ^H1121 of Eleazar ^H499 and eight ^H8083 of the [fn]sons ^H1121 of Ithamar ^H385, according to their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004. 5 Thus they were divided ^H2505 by lot ^H1486, the one ^H428 as the other ^H428; for they were leaders ^H8269 for the sanctuary ^H6944 and leaders ^H8269 for God ^H430, both from the sons ^H1121 of Eleazar ^H499 and the sons ^H1121 of Ithamar ^H385. 6 Shemaiah ^H8098, the son ^H1121 of Nethanel ^H5417 the scribe ^H5608, from the Levites ^H3881, wrote ^H3789 them down ^H3789 in the presence ^H6440 of the king ^H4428, the princes ^H8269, Zadok ^H6659 the priest ^H3548, Ahimelech ^H288 the son ^H1121 of Abiathar ^H54, and the heads ^H7218 of the fathers’ ^H1 households of the priests ^H3548 and of the Levites ^H3881; one ^H259 father’s ^H1 household ^H1004 taken ^H270 for Eleazar ^H499 and one taken ^H270 for Ithamar ^H385.

27 The sons ^H1121 of Merari ^H4847: by Jaaziah ^H3269 were Beno ^H1121, Shoham ^H7719, Zaccur ^H2139, and Ibri ^H5681.

28 By Mahli ^H4249: Eleazar ^H499, who had ^H1961 no ^H3808 sons ^H1121.

29 By Kish ^H7027: the sons ^H1121 of Kish ^H7027, Jerahmeel ^H3396.

30 The sons ^H1121 of Mushi ^H4187: Mahli ^H4249, Eder ^H5740 and Jerimoth ^H3406.

These ^H428 were the sons ^H1121 of the Levites ^H3881 according to their fathers’ ^H1 households ^H1004.

31 These ^H1992 also ^H1571 cast ^H5307 lots ^H1486 alongside ^H5980 their [fn]relatives ^H251 the sons ^H1121 of Aaron ^H175 in the presence ^H6440 of David ^H1732 the king ^H4428, Zadok ^H6659, Ahimelech ^H288, and the heads ^H7218 of the fathers’ ^H1 households of the priests ^H3548 and of the Levites ^H3881—the head ^H7218 of fathers’ ^H1 households alongside ^H5980 those of his younger ^H6996 brother ^H251.
