Yahweh’s Hand Against the Philistines

1 Now the Philistines ^H6430 took ^H3947 the ark ^H727 of God ^H430 and brought ^H935 it from Ebenezer ^H72 to Ashdod ^H795.

2 Then the Philistines ^H6430 took ^H3947 the ark ^H727 of God ^H430 and brought ^H935 it to the house ^H1004 of Dagon ^H1712 and set ^H3322 it by Dagon ^H1712. 3 Then the Ashdodites ^H796 arose ^H7925 early ^H7925 the next ^H4283 morning ^H4283, and behold ^H2009, Dagon ^H1712 had fallen ^H5307 on his face ^H6440 to the ground ^H776 before ^H6440 the ark ^H727 of Yahweh ^H3068. So they took ^H3947 Dagon ^H1712 and set ^H7725 him in his place ^H4725 again ^H7725. 4 But they arose ^H7925 early ^H7925 the next ^H4283 morning ^H1242, and behold ^H2009, Dagon ^H1712 had fallen ^H5307 on his face ^H6440 to the ground ^H776 before ^H6440 the ark ^H727 of Yahweh ^H3068. 6 Now the hand ^H3027 of Yahweh ^H3068 was ^H3513 glorious ^H3513 against the Ashdodites ^H796, and He made them desolate ^H8074 and struck ^H5221 them with tumors ^H6076, both Ashdod ^H795 and its territories ^H1366. 7 Thus the men ^H376 of Ashdod ^H795 saw ^H7200 that it was so ^H3651 and said ^H559, “The ark ^H727 of the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 must not remain ^H3427 with us, for His hand ^H3027 is ^H7185 severe ^H7185 on us and on Dagon ^H1712 our god ^H430.” 8 So they sent ^H7971 and gathered ^H622 all ^H3605 the lords ^H5633 of the Philistines ^H6430 to them and said ^H559, “What ^H4100 shall we do ^H6213 with the ark ^H727 of the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478?” And they said ^H559, “Let the ark ^H727 of the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 be brought ^H5437 around ^H5437 to Gath ^H1661.” And they brought ^H5437 the ark ^H727 of the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 around. 9 Now it happened after ^H310 they had brought ^H5437 it around ^H5437, that the hand ^H3027 of Yahweh ^H3068 was against the city ^H5892 with very ^H3966 great ^H1419 confusion ^H4103; and He struck ^H5221 the men ^H376 of the city ^H5892, both ^H4480 young ^H6996 and old ^H1419, so that tumors ^H6076 broke ^H8368 out ^H8368 on them. 10 So they sent ^H7971 the ark ^H727 of God ^H430 to Ekron ^H6138. And as the ark ^H727 of God ^H430 came ^H935 to Ekron ^H6138 the Ekronites ^H6139 cried ^H2199 out ^H2199, saying ^H559, “They have brought ^H5437 the ark ^H727 of the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478 around ^H5437 to [fn]us, to put ^H4191 [fn]us and [fn]our people ^H5971 to ^H4191 death ^H4191.” 11 They sent ^H7971 therefore and gathered ^H622 all ^H3605 the lords ^H5633 of the Philistines ^H6430 and said ^H559, “Send ^H7971 away ^H7971 the ark ^H727 of the God ^H430 of Israel ^H3478, and let it return ^H7725 to its own place ^H4725, so that it will not put ^H4191 [fn]us and [fn]our people ^H5971 to ^H4191 death ^H4191.” For there was a deadly ^H4194 confusion ^H4103 throughout ^H3605 the city ^H5892; the hand ^H3027 of God ^H430 was ^H3513 very ^H3966 glorious ^H3513 there ^H8033. 12 Now the men ^H376 who ^H834 did not die ^H4191 were struck ^H5221 with tumors ^H6076 and the cry ^H7775 of the city ^H5892 went ^H5927 up ^H5927 to heaven ^H8064.
