The Rise of False Prophets
1 But false G5578 prophets G5578 also G2532 arose G1096 among G1722 the people G2992, just G5613 as G5613 there will also G2532 be false G5572 teachers G5572 among G1722 you, who G3748 will secretly G3919 introduce G3919 destructive G684 heresies G139, even G2532 denying G720 the Master G1203 who bought G59 them, bringing G1863 swift G5031 destruction G684 upon G1863 themselves G1438.
2 And many G4183 will follow G1811 their sensuality G766, and because G1223 of them the way G3598 of the truth G225 will be maligned G987. 3 And in their greed G4124 they will exploit G1710 you with false G4112 words G3056, their judgment G2917 from long G1597 ago G1597 is not idle G691, and their destruction G684 is not asleep G3573.
4 For if G1487 God G2316 did not spare G5339 angels G32 who sinned G264, but cast G5020 them into G5020 the G5020 [fn]pit G5020 and delivered G3860 them to chains G4577 of darkness G2217, being kept G5083 for judgment G2920; 5 and did not spare G5339 the ancient G744 world G2889, but preserved G5442 Noah G3575, a [fn]preacher G2783 of righteousness G1343, with seven G3590 others G3590, when He brought G1863 a flood G2627 upon G1863 the world G2889 of the ungodly G765; 6 and if He condemned G2632 the cities G4172 of Sodom G4670 and Gomorrah G1116 to destruction G2692 by reducing G5077 them to G5077 ashes G5077, having made G5087 them an example G5262 to those who would G3195 live G764 ungodly G764 lives thereafter G3195; 7 and if He rescued G4506 righteous G1342 Lot G3091, oppressed G2669 by the sensual G766 conduct G391 of unprincipled G113 men G113 8 (for by what G990 he saw G990 and heard G189 that righteous G1342 man G1342, while living G1460 among G1722 them, felt G928 his righteous G1342 soul G5590 tormented G928 day G2250 after G1537 day G2250 by their lawless G459 deeds G2041), 9 then the Lord G2962 knows G6063 how G6063 to rescue G4506 the godly G2152 from [fn]trial G3986, and to keep G5083 the unrighteous G94 under G2849 punishment G2849 for the day G2250 of judgment G2920, 10 and especially G3122 those G3588 who go G4198 after the flesh G4561 in its corrupt G3394 lust G1939 and despise G2706 authority G2963.
Daring G5113, self-willed G829, they do not tremble G5141 when they blaspheme G987 [fn]glorious G1391 ones, 11 whereas G3699 angels G32 who are greater G3173 in strength G2479 and power G1411 do not bring G5342 a reviling G989 judgment G2920 against G2596 them before G3844 the Lord G2962. 12 But these G3778, like G5613 unreasoning G249 animals G2226, born G1080 as creatures G5446 of G5446 instinct G5446 to be captured G259 and killed G5356, blaspheming G987 where G1722 G3739 they have G50 no G50 knowledge G50, will in [fn]the destruction G5356 of those G3778 creatures also G2532 be destroyed G5351, 13 suffering G91 unrighteousness G91 as the wages G3408 of their unrighteousness G93, considering G2233 it a pleasure G2237 to revel G5172 in the daytime G2250—they are stains G4696 and blemishes G3470, reveling G1792 in their [fn]deceptions G539, as they feast G4910 with you, 14 having G2192 eyes G3788 full G3324 of adultery G3428 and unceasing G180 sin G266, enticing G1185 unstable G793 souls G5590, having G2192 a heart G2588 trained G1128 in greed G4124—they are accursed G2671 children G5043. 15 Forsaking G2641 the right G2117 way G3598, they have gone G4105 astray G4105, having followed G1811 the way G3598 of Balaam G903, the son of Beor G1007, who G3739 loved G25 the wages G3408 of unrighteousness G93, 16 but he received G2192 a rebuke G1649 for his own G2398 lawlessness G3892, for a mute G880 donkey G5268, speaking G5350 out with a voice G5456 of a man G444, restrained G2967 the madness G3913 of the prophet G4396.
17 These G3778 are springs G4077 without G504 water G504 and mists G3658 driven G1643 by a storm G2978, for whom G3739 the [fn]black G2217 darkness G4655 has been kept G5083. 18 For speaking G5350 out arrogant G5246 words of vanity G3153, they entice G1185 by sensual G766 lusts G1939 of the flesh G4561, those G3588 who barely G6067 escape G668 from the ones who conducted G390 themselves in error G4106, 19 promising G1861 them freedom G1657 while they themselves G846 are slaves G1401 of corruption G5356; for by what G3739 a man G5100 is G2274 overcome G2274, by this G3778 he is enslaved G1402. 20 For if G1487 they are G2274 overcome G2274, having both escaped G668 the defilements G3393 of the world G2889 by the knowledge G1922 of the Lord G2962 and Savior G4990 Jesus G2424 Christ G5547 and having again G3825 been entangled G1707 in G1707 them, then the last G2078 state has become G1096 worse G5501 for them than the first G4413. 21 For it would be better G2909 for them not to have known G1921 the way G3598 of righteousness G1343, than G2228 having known G1921 it, to turn G5290 away G5290 from the holy G40 commandment G1785 handed G3860 on to them. 22 The G3588 [fn]message of the true G227 proverb G3942 has happened G4819 to them, “A DOG G2965 RETURNS G1994 TO ITS OWN G2398 VOMIT G1829,” and, “A sow G5300, after washing G3068, returns to wallowing G2946 in the mire G1004.”
